NMMC Headquarters could be the country’s new iconic marvel

The satellite city would be soon getting an iconic structure in the form of the NMMC Headquarters under construction at CBD Belapur.
It’s been fourteen long years that the first plans of the NMMC HQ was floated by NMMC on the same plot in Koperkhairane where one can see the Reliance Beverly Park. After the bhumipujan in 1995, NMMC gave the reason of the dumping ground being close to the plot and rejected the plot. Finally it was under the headship of first Mayor Dr. Sanjeev Naik, that the NMMC HQ plot was zeroed at the Belapur site but jinx plagued the project due to technical hitches and environment clearances. However, all problems were taken up head on by NMMC until finally the bid to construct the HQ was re-tendered and awarded to Ashwini Infra-development Engineer and Contractors Pvt. Ltd. The latter bid the lowest for constructing the project that is Rs. 89 Crore 99 Lacs 47 Thousand 670. With the construction on the site already in full swing, we met the architects of this iconic structure of the city, Hiten Sethi and Associates. The CEO of the company, that corporation buildings are more of a pride for a city. This particular structure took four attempts but it is finally underway.
The construction is in full swing with the raft of the basements fitted that in another 18 months the structure would be complete. Someone has very rightly said that patience is always rewarded, For over a decade, the corporators and officials of NMMC were waiting to have their own headquarters and as the work begins in full force at the site, looks like the wait is soon going to be over that too in style. For the project promises to not just be an iconic structure and a marvel of a landmark, but the NMMC Headquarters promise to be a civic wonder like no municipal corporation in the country.

The powerful and influential Naik family

”Thane Guardian Minister Ganesh Naik, MP Dr. Sanjeev Naik and NMMC Standing Committee Chairman Sandeep Naik arriving at the same venue made for a powerful picture. Because this is for the first time after MP Dr. Sanjeev Naik won the parliamentary elections that the trio came together on the same dais. The love affair of Navi Mumbai with the Naik family started off with Ganesh Naik and has passed on to his sons so much so that today Ganesh Naik holds two significant portfolios of Environment and Excise in the state, his elder son MP Dr. Sanjeev Naik is the spokesperson of NCP in the parliament and his younger son Standing Committee Chairman Sandeep Naik holds the keys to NMMC treasury. Ask Ganesh Naik what he has to say on the powerful tri that they represent and this is what he has to say.

Indeed with the Guardian Minister Ganesh Naik, MP Dr. Sanjeev Naik and NMMC Standing Committee Chairman Sandeep Naik brought to life the impact of the three most powerful and influential men of the first family of Navi Mumbai.

First batch of NANO cars in Navi Mumbai

Tata’s Nano has reached Navi Mumbai. It was historic moment when the batch of Nano cars was distributed to the customers at an automobile showroom in Nerul. The keys were handed over to the vehicle owners at the hands of Thane Guardian Minister Ganesh Naik in the presence of MP Dr. Sanjeev Naik and NMMC Standing Committee Chairman Sandeep Naik.

When the Nano entered the automobile market, United State President Barrack Obama challenged the U.S. automakers to create a credible model to survive and succeed in the competitive global market. Don't dismiss the Nano as a small, poor man's car that will cause a mere ripple on the world market. The Nano is a radical innovation, with the potential to revolutionize automobile manufacturing and distribution. Popularly known as “the People’s Car” – the Nano has reached Navi Mumbai as well. The first batch of six Nano cars was handed over to the proud owners of the car in an automobile showroom in Nerul at the hands of Thane Guardian Minister Ganesh Naik in the presence of Thane MP Dr. Sanjeev Naik and NMMC Standing Committee Chairman Sandeep Naik. And when they got a chance, how could the Ministers and his sons miss the chance to experience what it feels like sitting in the people's car.

Over the environmental concerns that are being raised with Tata Nano’s launch, Guardian Minister Ganesh Naik said that the idea of the Nano shifting to gas should be promoted. Nano has also given hope to persons with disabilities to have a car of their own provided that the Tata’s consider designing disabled friendly vehicles. Vikram Sinha, the Head of Corporate Relations of Tata Motors says that they would consider this seeing the demands. Excited Tata Nanos owners too spoke to us.

Experts feel that the problems of energy scarcity, environmental pollution and road congestion should not discourage Ratan Tata from making and selling as many Nanos as he can. First, the Nano is more energy efficient and affordable than any other car. Moreover, the explosion of vehicles will force regulators to control pollution, pressure governments to build better roads and motivate innovators to produce more efficient engines. The Nano has the potential of flourishing despite the recession or softening its sting because of its extraordinary low price. It's a radical innovation precisely because it is a poor man's car.

SANJEEV NAIK VISITS THANE RAILWAY STATION

Naik demands land for jetty in Mumbai
Guardian minister pushes water transport project
Thane District Guardian Minister Ganesh Naik demanded that the Urban Haat project should be handed over to NMMC for maintenance. "CIDCO's role is to build such fine projects but ultimately they should be handed over to the civic body for maintenance and upkeep," Naik said during the inaugural function of CIDCO's Urban Haat at the Vishnudas Bhave auditorium on Monday.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Ashok Chavan, who was the chief guest at the function, assured that once the process is completed, the project will surely be handed over in due course of time.
Naik also appealed to the CM to look into the delay in allocating land for a jetty near Radio Club in South Mumbai for the proposed water transport project to connect satellite city to Mumbai.
Naik, who is also state excise and environment minister, has been pursuing the authorities to push the project, which will connect Nerul to Gateway of India.
"Poor transport facilities still remains a hindrance for the city as commuters are stuck in heavy traffic and commuting to Mumbai takes hours. The water transport project can prove to be a boon as people can reach Mumbai in just 30 minutes by jetty. I request the CM to sanction the land at the earliest to facilitate movement on this stretch and provide commuters a viable alternative," the minister said.
Expressing unhappiness with CIDCO's system of allocating land to social organisations, Naik said, "I defer with the system as only the rich organisations will benefit from this system." Chavan promised to do the needful to ensure better transport facilities between Mumbai and Navi Mumbai.

Note concerned of the election code of conduct and vital issues pending for discussions , members waste monthly general body meeting

Keeping aside all the vital issues on the agenda for the day and showing least concern for the limited time the present house has to discuss public issues, the monthly general body meeting of NMMC saw members spending over 4 hours on a felicitation proposal for Navi Mumbai’s first MP Dr. Sanjeev Naik. While one wouldn’t dispute that the MP deserved being honored, the time spent on doing the honors is something the corporators should have thought about.

Navi Mumbai’s first Mayor Dr. Sanjeev Naik is also Navi Mumbai’s first MP; hence it was apparent that this feat called for a felicitation proposal to honor MP Dr. Sanjeev Naik in NMMC. And the general body did – this week. Corporators from all parties praised MP Dr. Sanjeev Naik to the T for becoming the first MP from Navi Mumbai. Beyond any doubt MP Dr. Sanjeev Naik’s victory in the Thane constituency called for this recognition of his work, achievement and win but the hours that the members chose to spend over a felicitation proposal keeping aside all public work proposal on the agenda came as a major disappointment. The general body meetings are held once in a month and this was the first general body meeting of NMMC after Lok Sabha elections. It’s not like the corporators are unaware of how crucial it is to not waste any general body meetings because assembly elections are due soon. Once the election code of conduct comes into effect for the assembly elections, the general body meetings will not be conducted again. This would mean that several of the major public work that are on the agenda will either get less time for discussions or no time at all. This includes the hawker’s policy and major amendments in the development draft of NMMC that is likely to impact the infrastructure across the city. Besides this there were several other public work and questions of corporators that that were on the agenda but not showing a couldn’t-care-less-attitude, members chose to spend over 4 hours in one felicitation proposal. This despite the fact that members had spent another two hours on the same felicitation proposal in the special general body meeting held earlier this month. Such conduct of corporators in the house calls for norms or rules being put in place to limit time on felicitation and condolence proposals in the house so that justice can be done to the issues of public interest and welfare.

Flattery overflows at General Body Meeting

City corporators tried to impress newly-elected Member of Parliament Sanjeev Naik during the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation's (NMMC) general body meeting held on Thursday at NMMC Headquarters in Belapur. Naik was invited by the House for felicitating him and in this process over four hours were exhausted flattering Naik for his intelligence, generosity and so on. Keeping aside all other issues, the House continued praising Naik. While some corporators insisted on their proximity with Naiks, others pressed on their role during elections and the good old relations with Sanjeev Naik and his family. The corporators also took opportunity to share their memories with the leader. "I stood besides Ganesh Naik (Dada) when he joined NCP from Shiv Sena. Since then I have been with him and was instrumental in gaining popularity for the party. I approached Sanjeev Naik in 2007 and he called me to meet. He took me to Morbe Dam from Belapur and it was then I tasted Morbe dam water. During the trip, we discussed several issues," NCP corporator Anant Sutar said.
The general body was also used by many to send political messages to the rivals as well as promote self interest. "Sanjeev Naik has been my college mate and during college elections also he didn't allowed me to win. However, now since he has reached Parliament, he should meet Rahul Gandhi and inform him about the various problems being faced by the city. Since NCP already have one Member of Parliament, it should leave both the assembly seats in Navi Mumbai to the Congress. NCP should be happy with one MP and let Congress have two Members of Legislative Assembly (MLA)," Congress corporator Dashrath Bhagat said. While corporators were busy promoting themselves, there were others to pull them down. Its not only councillors from NCP, but Shiv Sena corporator Vijay Mane also expressed gratitude towards Sanjeev Naik. "I wish to congratulate Naik for winning the elections and hope that he brings maximum central schemes and funds for the development of Navi Mumbai. At the same time, he addresses problem of people and corporators cutting across party lines." However, Rohini Bhoir, the other Shiv Ssena corporator displayed resentment for spending so much of general body's time only in felicitating Naik. "In our last meeting the general body spent two hours on discussing Naik's victory in general elections and today again four hours were spent on the same topic. General body is held to discuss public issues and such act neglects public issues, besides civic officials keeping aside all work to attend general body so this time should be utilised for some purpose," Bhoir added.
Nonetheless, it's not for the first time that the House has spent hours on flattering party seniors. In the special general body meeting held on June 9, the corporators spent over two hours pleasing Naik's victory. Meanwhile, all the public issues were neglected and the general body meeting ended after Naik's felicitation. When asked, Mayor Anjani Bhoir said, "Sanjeev Naik is our first mayor and was instrumental in implementing many projects during his tenure. Therefore, we decided to felicitate him. During the felicitation, the corporators also raised many problems and Naik assured to solve them."in command: MP Sanjeev Naik soaked in the praises for four hours of the general body meeting.
The credit goes to….
Besides flattering Sanjeev Naik, corporators also claimed credit for backing the NCP Member of Parliament during his victory in the elections. "It's with Congress support that Naik has won the elections, therefore now post-elections he shouldn't forget the party (Congress) leaders. He should address our problems in the same way as he would do to the issues brought by his partymen," Congress corporator Dashrath Bhagat said.
Likewise, another Naik's college mate Avinash Lad appeased his comradeship and claimed that his victory was possible only because of Congress' help. "Congress workers worked very hard during elections keeping the party differences aside. Sanjeev Naik's victory is result of the collective efforts by Congress and NCP," Lad said. Similarly, another Congress councillor Santosh Shetty claimed that Naik's victory in general elections was result of collective efforts by Congress, Republican Party of India (RPI) and NCP.
"Sanjeev Naik has won because of public support. Fifty percent of people voted for candidate, but at the same time he received equivalent support from Congress and RPI as he was the only candidate of the alliance," Shetty said. Commenting on this, NCP corporator Anant Sutar said, "Everyone is busy claiming credit for Naik's victory. Nine months back when he lost the elections he alone took blame for it. At that moment we decided to avenge that defeat."

The garden spread across 4000 sq meters offers a breathtaking view of the city and will lure morning walkers and joggers.

MP Sanjeev Naik meets commuters at bhayander Railway Station

Newly-elected Member of Parliament Dr. Sanjeev Naik wasted no time after taking the oath in New Delhi and immediately sought an audience with the rail ministry to put forth the problems faced by city commuters. The MP was in Bhayander railway station to get hands on information on the problems that commuters face during traveling.

A look at the Bhayander railway station will tell you how much it is in need of more frequent trains. As each train that arrives at the station is quickly filled by scrambling commuters till the train is choked till the doors. He stated that there was a need to implement newer plans for the convenience of the commuters by increasing the timing and frequency of trains. As of now, the trains are so jam packed that there is no proper space for women, senior citizens or physically challenged.

Dr. Sanjeev Naik informed that he personally met Union Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee and requested her to look in to the demands of the Thane city. Very soon a detailed draft would be prepared by them and submitted it to the ministry. The young MP is leaving no stone unturned and is even meeting ministers of surface transport, shipping and ports next week to seek sanctions for the water transport project proposed by him. We have snatched their votes right under their nose and the pro-development work that we will undertake from now onwards in the entire constituency will ensure that Thane remains with the NCP for many more years to come. The hard work of party members has borne fruit," said a thrilled Avhad, for whom the defeat of a Sena candidate in the backyard is harbinger of great opportunities in the forthcoming Assembly and civic elections.
Congress leader Namdeo Bhagat followed suit and said, "We had predicted a lead of 40,000 votes and the results have surpassed our expectations." Few others contributed the anti-incumbency vote to the fact that Thanekars wanted a change.

MP Dr. Sanjeev Naik visits Thane and Mira Bhayander to thank voters

After receiving immense support from voters in the Thane constituency, newly elected MP Dr. Sanjeev Naik visited Thane and Mire-Bhayander to thank the voters.

Thane was known as the stronghold of the Shiv Sena, it was called as the fort of the saffron party. But after 25 years creating history, UPA’s candidate Dr. Sanjeev Naik stood victorious above all odds and broke this rule of the Shiv Sena. To thank the voters for giving him the support for his victory, MP Dr. Sanjeev Naik visited thane and Mira Bhayander where he was welcomed by a huge crowd of supporters. Dr. Sanjeev Naik creates history –Wins Thane Constituency by Margin of 49,000 Votes.

16.05.09,
This isn’t the first time that he has created history and this one is as prestigious and big as the last time. Dr. Sanjeev Naik – the NCP-Congress-RPI-Samajwadi party candidate from Thane constituency has created history by winning the Thane constituency. The win can easily be termed as a thumping victory as Dr. Sanjeev Naik beat his rival saffron alliance candidate by 49020 votes. We bring to you all the moments from the counting center at Thane with this report.

After 25 years if anyone could rock Sena fortress Thane and capture Thane – it could only be Ganesh Naik. That’s why it’s the victory of Navi Mumbai NCP Supremo Ganesh Naik’s magic and goodwill among the masses backed by the dent created in the saffron alliance vote bank by the MNS factor that Dr. Sanjeev Naik has been elected to the parliament from the Thane constituency with a clear majority of 49020 votes. Early morning saw all the three main candidates arrive at the voting center, which included NCP-Congress-RPI-Samajwadi Party candidate Dr. Sanjeev Naik, BJP-Shiv Sena candidate Vijay Chougule who arrived with MLA Eknath Shinde at the venue and MNS candidate Rajan Raje along with most of the other 30 candidates who filed their nominations from the Thane constituency. Another prominent candidate that no one missed was Mangesh Khade – the third gender candidate from this constituency.

From the moment the counting began at the counting center at Thane, the lead to the NCP candidate Dr. Sanjeev Naik started with a few thousands votes.. As the counting proceeded, every round kept mounting the lead for Dr. Sanjeev Naik. By noon, it was clear that the win for the UPA candidate was definite and that the counting would only seal the number of votes with which Dr. Sanjeev Naik would beat his nearest rival. While many expected MNS candidate Rajan Raje to put up a good show – Rajan Raje went beyond expectations as he garnered an average of over 5000 votes in each of the 25 rounds of the counting sessions. And finally secured a huge 1, 34, 840 votes. No points for guessing that this was a direct dent to the saffron vote bank that procured 2, 51, 980 votes. By the end of the counting session – the Rajan Raje factor became the single biggest reason for the victory of Dr. Sanjeev Naik with the final results of the Thane constituency looking like this :
NCP’S DR. SANJEEV NAIK – 3, 01, 000 votes
The presiding election officer made the formal announcement of Dr. Sanjeev Naik’s election as the Member of Parliament from the Thane constituency. Dr. Sanjeev Naik walked in the counting center as a young veteran party leader of NCP but he walked out of the counting center as seasoned MP Dr. Sanjeev Naik who has again created history by becoming the first MP from Navi Mumbai.

Factors to Dr.Sanjeev Naik’s Victory

16.05.09,
He went, he saw, he conquered – that’s the story of this young man who has conquered Thane – that is believed to be the Shiv Sena castle. While there are many factors that lead to the victory of NCP’s Dr. Sanjeev Naik in Thane constituency, there is no denying that Dr. Sanjeev Naik has achieved what many believed was unachievable. And credit for this first and foremost goes to Navi Mumbai’s first family – the Naik family’s work of continuously promoting secularism & brotherhood in Navi Mumbai. The work done by the Naik family headed by Ganesh Naik in presenting the secular & vibrant image of Navi Mumbai at all levels is incomparable. The results of these elections are a proof that voters across Thane constituency have acknowledged his work and have great respect & affection for the Naik family.
And the secular magic of Ganesh Naik has spread from Navi Mumbai to the entire Thane constituency. Besides this, Sharad Pawar’s road show and dal bal efforts with two sabhas in this constituency also hit the right chords with the voters.

The victory could definitely not have been possible for the credentials of the candidate himself. Dr. Sanjeev Naik’s experience and work record as the first Mayor of Navi Mumbai, his hard work, clean image and educational qualifications appealed massively to voters. May be that’s why in an interview with media News itself, Dr. Sanjeev Naik had voiced confidence of a victory. The tradition of secularism & communal harmony is the hallmark of the Naik family & Dr. Sanjeev Naik makes one believe that it is being followed generation to generation. The results have proved that the support to the Naik family was never as heady and strong as it is now.

Dr. Sanjeev Naik Wins Thane seat with margin of 49,020 votes

DNA News,
The celebrations begun at 9 am when NCP candidate Sanjeev Naik had a clear lead of 350 votes after the initial five rounds of counting for the Thane Parliamentary constituency held at Wagle Estate in Thane on Saturday. Giving a big blow to Shiv Sena-BJP alliance in its traditional bastion, Naik, the elder son of Maharashtra Minister Ganesh Naik, won by a clear margin of 49,020 votes becoming the first Member of Parliament from Navi Mumbai.

While Naik grabbed 3,01,000 lakh votes, his rival Vijay Chauguley of Shiv Sena polled 2,51,980 votes. Political observers attributed the stunning success of Naik to the 'MNS' factor, which ate into the votes of the saffron alliance. MNS candidate Rajan Raje's substantial count of 1,34,840 votes surprised many. Even BSP candidate Avanindra Kumar Tripathi performed well bagging 14,192 votes. The cheering was accompanied by whistles and slogans in favour of their beloved leader. By 10 am, the scene resembled a party with flags flying high, loud beating of drums and party members dancing their way to glory.

Though Naik walked out of the counting booth only after 2 pm, the eager crowd had become so impatient by then that the police officials had to resort to force to control the huge mob. A large number of women party members too had gathered at the counting booth making preparations to welcome Naik with garlands and traditional 'aarti'. After 11 am, the women were seen engaged in an animated conversation about what dress to wear for the evening party.
A heavy police bandobast was seen in Thane and many were upset for not being allowed inside the centre. An area of 1 km around the centre was cordoned off by police. Many criticised the choice of the counting centre too as the secluded industrial area had no food outlets or seating arrangements.

The large crowd of people who had gathered to cheer their leader and mediapersons had a tough time killing the long hours in the sun before the final result was declared at 2 pm.The lone tea vendor, however, made brisk business through the day. 'Jai Ho' remained the favourite slogan all day through.

Sanjeev Naik’s 5-Point plan for the Future City.

DNA Mumbai News
25.04.09,
Congress-NCP candidate from Thane constituency Dr Sanjeev Naik recently launched his official website http://www.sanjeevgnaik.com/ in a bid to have more interpersonal interaction with the citizen.
In addition to the inaugural ceremony of the website he also announced his five pointers for the Thane Lok Sabha constituency.

The site is being viewed as a step towards giving citizen an upper hand while addressing their issues with the candidate. The site is equipped with information pertaining to his achievements and links to prominent Websites of the party.
“People in my constituency can use this platform to post issues they are facing which will be personally monitored so as to enable me to address the same with-in 24 hours. Internet will help me to understand the issues and work upon them more closely,” Naik Said.

The five pointers announced on the occasion attempt to cover all major grievances faced by the public. This includes solving water crisis, providing healthy living, addressing traffic concerns, controlling pollution and rehabilitation of slums. Accordingly, the candidate intends to bring excess water from Morbe Dam to Thane in future to bridge the water requirement.

He assures to start with water transport, monorail in the constituency. Installation of sewerage treatment plants in the constituency and planting more trees to protect the environment have also been mentioned in the pointers.

NCP- Congress RPI alliance candidate Sanjeev Naik seeking the blessings of an elderly voter during his campaign.

Vashi Times ,

Sanjeev Naik is banking on the good work he has done during his tenure as Navi Mumbai mayor.

“The electorate of this constituency is clever enough to know the value of their vote on a candidate with dubious pat,” said Sanjeev Naik while addressing media persons in his campaign trial.

“Our party was instrumental in construction of the Morbe Dam, which will take care of the water requirement of Navi Mumbai and its adjoining areas beyond 2020,” said Sanjeev Naik. Further adding that the Property Tax rates for Navi Mumbai has not been increased for last few years as promised by the Guardian Minister Ganesh Naik.

On April 23, Sanjeev Naik “unveiled” his “five mantras” for the constituency’s rapid development which is:

1) Solving water crisis – by bringing the excess water from Morbe Dam to Thane in future to fulfill water requirement.
2) Healthy living – by replicating his success in getting the Cleanest City Award for Navi Mumbai to Thane and Mira-Bhayander as well.

3) Solving traffic problems – by starting sea transport and mono rail in the constituency which will not save time but also reduce the traffic on raod and help to develop reliable and low cost transportation in the region.

4) Pollution Control – by installing sewerage treatment plants in the constituency and plant more trees to protect the environment.

5) Rehabilitation of slums – through SRA similar to Mumbai’s Dharavi slum redevelopment and making the dream come true of the slum dwellers to own a house in a building.

To support his vision, Sanjeev Naik also launced his official Website –

www.sanjeevgnaik.com – to reach out to the masses. He said, “People in my constituency can use this platform to post the various issues they are facing and I personally will be monitoring their problems. I will try to address the issues raised within 24 hours. I ca thus work closely with people for their benefit.”

Dr.Sanjeev Naik, who became mayor of Navi Mumbai at the young age of 23, has proved his ability to work for the welfare of the masses.

New Shining Bombay
24-04-09,
While there has been a drastic geographical change in the erstwhile PARLIAMENTARY CONSTITUENCY due to delimitation, the width of one of the new and resultant constituencies has not changes much. That means a candidate for a single constituency, such as Thane-Belapur, will have to represent an area right from Navi Mumbai to Thane,Bhayander and Uttan, as one of the major developing areas.
The interests of the people in this constituency are as varied as are the locations. Navi Mumbai has outgrown the initial expectations of the Government and CIDCO and has become a real city in readiness for the crown in the 21st Century.

While the upcoming elections are being held on such an electrol canvas, the political equations are in for fertile adjustments for a secular candidate. These equations could mean that the NCP-Congress-RPI Candidate Dr.Sanjeev Naik stands a little taller than his opponents in the electrol fray. With the latest developments, Samajwadi Party has provided open support for him along with the faction held by Ram Vilas Paswan. In another political development Mr.Hitendra Thakur of the Vasai Vikas Aghadi has spoken very high of Dr.Sanjeev Naik and has Provide full support of the Aghadi for him. It is not yet known to whom this success is to be attributed but it is a fact that most of the RPI factions have joined hands and provided full support for Dr.Sanjeev Naik.

What is it that will make the NCP-Congress-RPI candidate Dr.Sanjeev Naik clicks with the Voters?

The question was put to selective lot of voters from different Legislative Assembly segments of the constituency. The consensus was that he is educated, well groomed politically and has done something worthy to prove his merits in Navi Mumbai. Although the answers varied for a question like why the turnout was low for the elections held six months earlier, most of the voters felt that the turnout this time will show a remarkable improvement. The increase would have been attributed to general awareness campaigns put up by various organizations.
There should be a contact office and the smallest of the small complaints should reach the elected representative. He should understand the aspirations of the common people in his constituency and should have viable solutions to their genuine problems.

The elected representative should be resonant with their legitimate demands, and considering that he would be a parliamentarian, should have abilities to expressly put these demands before Central Government for action. As a public servant they should be squarely aware about public service.

In the Present nomination for the Thane-Belapur Constituency, Dr.Sanjeev Naik has emerged as a mature candidate for his party as well.

This is Irrespective of the fact that he happens to be the son of the Maharashtra Minister and NCP heavyweight Mr. Ganesh Naik.

An open letter to my constituency voters – Why Me? - by Sanjeev Naik

24.04.09,
New shining Mumbai,
In an advertisement appearing on television Channels lately, a youth is shown interviewing a candidate who comes seeking his vote. The candidate takes umbrage; however the youth is adamant stating that he needs to know the candidate’s record before voting. While the reaction of the candidate is on expected lines, the act of the youth is a welcome change that is visible in the voters today.

The incidents of the 26/11 have shaken and stirred the conscience of all Indians. Everyone has realized that no one is detached from the happenings in the country. This is our country and we have to fight it enemies together, united.

For this it is very important that we set our house in order first. The awakening amongst the countrymen is translating into questions and thoroughly analyzed decisions. Gone are the days when elections were considered by most as a day of public holiday. There is an urge now to ensure that one is heard and heard well. The people are speaking out and are determined to ensure that their voice is carried by the right people to the corridors of power where the actual decisions are taken.

The 15th lok Sabha will be a test of the resolve of the people and a litmus test for the candidates.
This is the age of the youth. And only the youth have it in them to make a difference to the scheme of things. 75% of our country today is below the age of 40 years. Unfortunately just 7% of the MPs today are from this age group. It is time for Change.

I, Sanjeev Ganesh Naik, a candidate of the Congress, Nationalist Congress Party and RPI Alliance very humbly appeal to you to vote for me. To give me an opportunity to serve you, our state and our country. And I don’t appeal to you to take this decision blindly.

I reiterate that this time when you vote, stop to think first. Analyze me and all the other candidates from our 25 Thane Lok sabha constituency. Take into account our past record, experience, work for the society, dedication, Integrity, Credibility, character and image. Grade us all and I am sure, you will understand that my appeal to you for your precious vote is based no on the quest for power but backed by consistent performance and the right credentials.
I had the good fortune of being born in a family that has always been dedicated to social service. My father Shri.Ganeshji Naik, has always been a social worker first and then a politician. His efforts for the upliftment of the workers, the locals, his proactive stand in welcoming the new settlers of the city and helping them to identify with the regions, his progressive ideas, developmental work and his secular credentials are all a matter of record.
I was initiated into a social service at a very early age. The official recognition came with me becoming the Mayor of Navi Mumbai at the age for just 23 years, in 1995, the youngest in the country as recorded in Limca Book of Records.
I decided to use my age to my advantage and took decisions which traditionalists thought were very bold or may be even reckless. I however was very clear bout what I wanted for my city.
In a decision that will benefit generation to come, I, as the Mayor of Navi Mumbai acquired Morbe Dam for the City, when nobody in the state was ready to touch the almost shelved project. Today, NMMC, the only corporation in the country, post independence to own a dam, does not just have enough water for its residents to ensure a 24 X 7 Supply, but also surplus water to cater to the needs of those residing outside the city. This in the scenario when water supply is a major concern throughout the world is an unprecedented achievement.

I have always stressed on hygiene, efficient civic services and the need to involve the citizens in various projects to improve the conditions in the city. This helped NMMC win the prestigious Sant Gadgebaba cleanliness campaign of the State Government.
I conceptualized the three sewage Treatment Plant (STP) projects based on the advance C-Tech technology from Australia. The STPs are being developed in Vashi, Nerul and Airoli. The water treated here will be almost as good as drinking water. The water will be used in industries, for gardening and washing purposes. NMMC will be able to sell the water for commercial gains. The project will help reduce pollution in the creek where such water was earlier released.
My efforts have converted the dumping ground from an eye sore polluting necessity to a city resource. The Solid Waste Management programme in Navi Mumbai is arguably the best in the country with the recommendations of the Supreme Court to protect the environment, being implemented completely. The projects for reducing the emission of the poisonous methane gas, the earning of Carbon Credits, recycling of garbage into fertilizer and fuel at the Turbhe dumping ground have received international appreciation and recognition.

I believe that ones culture and heritage is a true source of inspiration for all of us. Through my organization Navi Mumbai Kala and Krida mandal, I have helped promote Maharashtra’s rich culture along with providing the city with its own tourist attractions and heritage. The magnificent statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj gallantly riding a horse and the depiction of the life of the Maharaj through the engraved murals at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Chowk in Vashi has become tourist attractions by themselves.
I have also ensured that the young ones of Thane District get the right platform to exhibit their talent. Millions of children have received encouragement and had an opportunity to participate in various competitions like “Chitra Bharati, sports meets, drama competitions etc organized by Navi Mumbai krida Sankul. I have also been involved with the successful pulse polio campaign at the local and National level.

In association with the Akhil Bharaitya Natya Parishad, I have promoted dance and drama in the city, Local artistes, bhajan mandals as well as top artistes of the state and country have been felicitated and encouraged through various concerts and programmes.
My selfness service to the city has been appreciates at the highest level. I have recently been conferred a “Doctorate” by the International Tamil university of Maryland USA. The honour is recognition of the services rendered by me towards environmental conservation, health and hygiene. The Sewage Treatment Plant project and my work in National polio Prevention campaign have come in for special mention.
I have also worked hard to help the city get funds and grants from the state and Central governments for its infrastructural projects.
The hallmark of a success full social worker is his ability to successfully and efficiently implement his plans for the benefit of the common man, on a wide range of issues, simultaneously. I believe,

I a social worker to the core, have accomplished this and more.
Being a youth has helped me to be progressive, have a vision that is helping change the face of the city that is witnessing world class development.
I have vowed to dedicate not just my youth but my life for the service of the people. I believe I am the candidate that we are all looking for to lead us to progress and prosperity. A man with the clean image for the 25 Thane Lok Sabha constituency. I am your very own candidate.
I have explained to you my qualifications. Time now for you to check out the others and then take an informed and well judged decision. I humbly believe you will agree with my view point and my candidature.
Press the button adjacent the “Clock” symbol when you go to cast your precious vote on April 30, 2009. Vote for Progress and prosperity. Vote for character.
